STOP! Don't make that new year resolution, try this instead

How many of us, set New Year resolutions at the start of January and then fail to achieve these? Is this the right way to start a new year?

This year, rather than make New Year resolutions, use that energy and vision to set yourself a personal goal.
Make this goal - specific, measurable and achievable. Identify what else you need to help you achieve the goal and how long it will take to achieve it and then DO IT.

When you have achieved this goal - try another one, in a different part of your life. Clearly define what you want, how you are going to get it, when you will know you have it and how you will celebrate.

Areas of your life you may want to consider:
  • Fun and recreation
  • Social relationships
  • Health
  • Career
  • Helping others
  • Family relationships
  • Love
  • Finances.

Try this once and I am confident you will make a positive difference in 2009. To take this further, contact me for personal one to one coaching sessions.

What is a Life Coach?

I am often asked this - what is a life coach?
My definition is this - a life coach will work and support you to make positive changes in your life.
Through setting personal goals together, you will identify what you want to change, how and when these changes will happen.
A life coach will help you to release your potential and challenge some of your thinking or statements you make about yourself.
It is all about creating some 'me' time to look honestly at those areas of your life that matter and you want to make a real difference to.

So the question is...."what do you want?"

Success stories - 2008 Clients

My clients have all had similar starting points - they were ready to make some improvements in their lives, however they were unsure where to start.

Here are some of my client's success stories from this year, so far:

  • Client 1 - knew she could achieve more at work, we spent time identifying exactly what those areas were, what and how they could be delivered better. By agreeing weekly goals, I built up the client's confidence to tackle some of her biggest work challenges. She is now MORE confident at work, is working much more effectively and is now applying for a promotion.

  • Client 2 - is juggling a new job, training and a life! Working together we put together weekly schedules to ensure she had time for all of the key areas of her life. A key element of my role here was to ensure the client made realistic goals that were achievable in the time available. Life is still busy for the client, but now she has the tools to plan her schedule and ensure she fits in all the important aspects to ensure a realistic work -life balance.

  • Client 3 - wanted to make changes to her life but didn't know where to start. After working together, the client has carved out some 'me' time from a busy family life and is now looking for new job opportunities after a career break.

  • Client 4 - has been toying with the idea of property development for several years, after working together he has bought his first development and is looking forward to discovering if this is an alternative to his current job!

  • Client 5 - well, that's me. I am working hard to develop my life coaching practice, I have almost finished my coaching qualification and have accumulated hours of coaching experience. And I am a Licensed Practitioner of Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP).
